Glue
So compared to most people, my iPod lacks a sufficient amount of songs. With only a tad more than a thousand songs, I like to play the music on my iPod on the shuffle setting. Unfortunately, I still feel a sense of repetition every time my music plays. I desperately needed to listen to some music that was new, bold, and exciting. My prayers were answered.
The other day, I drove down to L.A. with a friend of mine. So for most of the trip, he begged me to play some of the music on his iPod. Being the nice guy that I am (knowing fully well that I hated his taste in music), I allowed him to plug in his iPod. After listening to several generic (crap) rap/hip-hop songs (Lil’ Wayne), one track grabbed my complete attention. Right as the song ended, I asked my friend the name of the group we just listened to. He simply replied with one word, “Glue”. As soon as I came back home, I got a hold on Glue’s most recent album, “Catch As Catch Can” and gave it a full listen through. My ears were extremely satisfied.
Glue is an underground group that exhibits creative experimental and rap themes throughout their music. The band’s lyrics are something you would see straight out of a slam poetry performance. These powerful lyrics are intensified even further with the underlying tracks of unique instrumentals. Glue kind of sounds like if Mike Shinoda and DJ Shadow collaborated with each other to produce intense lyrics and addictive musical beats. The two tracks that stood out most on the album were “Catch As Catch Can” and my favorite song of the album, “Vessel”. I have something eclectic and exciting to listen. Hopefully, you will too.
